Program permission: Enrollment of students at the first level of academic higher education (undergraduate programs) is carried out based on the results of the unified national exams or the order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia No. 224/N (December 29, 2011), passing administrative registration and the order of the university presidents. It is possible to enroll in the program on a rolling basis twice a year; Enrollment or mobility in the program is possible from a recognized higher educational institution of a foreign country in accordance with the order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia.
Program goals:

The purpose of the program is to train a highly qualified specialist in the sciences of history, to equip a student with a broad knowledge of history of Georgia and world history from ancient times to modern times, considering socio-political, economic, legal and cultural aspects; to develop the skills of applying relevant research methodology and methods; to mold a citizen with high social awareness and democratic values being ready to understand and respect different cultures; to shape a flexible individual with analytical, critical and communication skills requisite for a knowledge-based society. A bachelor of history will be able to pursue his/her studies at the second level - a master's degree and/or get employed in almost all fields related to service and communication: public service, local, regional administrations, international and non-governmental organizations relevant to the field, the Institute of History and Ethnology, archives, museums, tourism and general education (private and public schools), National Agency for Cultural Heritage Protection, National Center for Manuscripts.

Knowledge and understanding
  • The undergraduate:

    • Based on a broad knowledge of the most recent researches and achievements in the field, names and defines the main events and issues of the history of separate periods, regions and countries of Georgia and the world history from the ancient times to the modern period.
    • Understands the basics of archaeology, historical geography, anthropology and the adjacent/supporting disciplines of history: ethnology, numismatics, paleography and epigraphy, heraldry, sphragistics and their role in the reconstruction of history;
    • Defines the main historical periods of the past and world history (ancient, medieval, new and recent history) and the diachronic framework of events;
    • Describes and explains the maps of local-historical civilizations, changes in the geopolitical map of Georgia and the world in different eras.

  • Skills
  • The undergraduate:

    • Collects the information contained in the narrative and other types of historical sources of Georgian and world history (“Kartlis Tskhovreba” (The Georgian Chronicles), "The Conversion of Kartli ", "Bill of Rights", W. Wilson's "Fourteen Points", etc.) and based on their comparison and critical analysis, formulates questions and develops his/her own conclusions.
    • Analyzes the role and place of man at different stages of history (needs, interests, motivations for action, perception of the world and values, living conditions), labor activity, evolution of material production and techniques, peculiarities of economic and social relations between people; formulates argumentative conclusions.
    • Based on critical understanding of the relationship between the past and the present as well as on collecting and processing bibliographic information and documents, creates a picture of various processes and events of Georgian and world history: political-economic, socio-cultural, civil, and human rights, state systems.
    • Applies branches of history and different historical research methods (qualitative, quantitate, historical-comparative, determinism, "cliometrics”, etc.) while conducting research on the history of Georgia and world history;
    • Conducts written and oral communication with specialists and non-specialists applying relevant vocabulary and terminology for B2 level of English language.
    • Presents the results of an abstract/small-scale research in native and English languages, orally and in writing, using appropriate terminology.

  • Responsibility and autonomy
  • The undergraduate:

    • Applies the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the history of Georgia and the world in practice in a specific environment;
    • Respects the diverse values, ideas, views and culture inherent to different countries and nations in various historical eras recognizing them as an integral part of world values.

    Teaching Process Characteristics:

    To obtain the academic degree of Bachelor of History, a student needs to accumulate 240 credits comprising:

    • Core courses of the program – 132 (including concentration - Georgian/world history - 12 ECTS and English language B 2/2 - 6 ECTS);
    • Elective courses of the program - 12 ECTS;
    • University compulsory-elective courses - 18 ECTS (6 ECTS from the social/humanitarian block and 12 ECTS from the STEAM block);
    • Free credit - 18 ECTS and
    • 60 ECTS in a minor specialty.
