Program permission: English language requirement: B2 Level. English language competence of candidates is assessed by either 1) the university through university exams, with a minimum threshold of 70%; or 2) internationally recognized exams, such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge English Exam. (B2 level equivalent scores: IELTS 5.5-6.5; TOEFL 87-109 IBT; Cambridge English Exam 160-179) Those candidates whose undergraduate degree was fully taught in English are exempted from this requirement. Georgian citizens must successfully pass the Unified Post-Graduate Exam. Georgian applicants must complete requirements 1-3. International applicants must complete 1-2.
Program goals:

MA in Global Governance

 

The program provides graduates (in the field of international politics and relations) with the ability to independently research the effectiveness of international organizations, institutional frameworks, legal-normative mechanisms and socio-economic factors, while studying complex nature of global processes and events.

 

Graduates of this program will be able to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Government, Parliament (Committees), Ministry of Internal Affairs, UN, OSCE, International Organizations, International Organizations operating in Georgia, Embassies, and local analytical organizations.

  • Knowledge

    A graduate has:

    • In-depth and systemic knowledge of existing international institutional architecture, global processes and their control mechanisms in various fields such as global trade, arms control, migration, and sustainable development.
    • In-depth knowledge of international organizations such as the United Nations, OSCE, European Union, NATO, their role, institutional significance, organizational structure and policies performed; also critical understanding of causes of organizational ineffectiveness and suggestions for improvement.
    • In-depth knowledge of the legal and other normative regimes clearly defined within the global governance system, including diplomatic practices and tools.

    Skills:

    A graduate has the ability:

    • To research independently the applicability of international legal norms and regimes in the specific fields/issues. (For example, conventional arms control and global trade).
    • To organize and participate in thematic negotiations and processes in the specific issue-areas, not least to identify (if needed) the format and structure of changes in organizational design of negotiations.
    • To apply respective legal and normative/regulatory framework for cases in human rights and EU economic, financial and trade policies (incl. competition policy).
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate the institutional and organizational frameworks and tools of global and good governance.
    • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of a particular institutional mechanisms, incl. those to regulate and ensure global stability and sustainable development.
    • To defend interdisciplinary approaches and their advantages within the context of global institutional framework research and mechanisms in specific issue-areas.
    • To design and apply the respective format of diplomacy and public communication, depending on the case reviewed. 
    • To independently find, structure and optimize relevant methodological approaches, including analytical models, while conducting a small size research project  in the field of global governance.

    Classes begin at 19.00 and end 21:15.

     

    Lectures-120 minutes, break - 15 minutes.

     

    The maximum number of students in a group is 30 students. The bachelor and master program components consist of 19 weeks.

    Teaching Process Characteristics:

    The Master’s program of Global Governance consists of 120 (ECTS) credits.

     

    Student passes the major in total of 90 credits. The remaining 30  credits may be taken from electives block of the same program.

     

    Graduates of this program hold a Master's Degree in Diplomacy and International Politics.
