Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and understanding
  • After the program completion, graduates have:

    • Broad knowledge of journalism, which includes ethical standards and the so-called nine principles of journalism, the importance of freedom of speech, international principles of freedom of expression and legal acts and norms of freedom of expression;
    • Knowledge of the stages of development of world journalism and the role of the state;
    • Knowledge of complex issues in journalism, such as features, news writing and coverage, specifics of working with sources, ways of finding and verifying information, understanding of features of news reporting, planning and preparation of stories, reports and interviews for radio and television, filming, editing, sound of material and knowledge of the basic principles of lighting, as well as knowledge of the peculiarities of working in editing programs such as Adobe Premiere, Audicity, and the understanding of modern media technologies, multimedia techniques, as well as knowledge of the peculiarities of writing an in-depth article, script writing, shooting and editing for a documentary film;
    • Knowledge of socio-psychological phenomena, their mechanisms of action, essential characteristics of human social activities and related factors;
    • Knowledge of photography methods, planning stages of photography, the features of presenting the subject, highlighting the main accents and creating a photo composition, as well as knowledge of raster graphic editor Adobe Photoshop, vector visual editor Adobe Illustrator, publishing editor Adobe InDesign, publishing editor Knowledge of QuarkXPress, Adobe Bridge software for rapid image processing;
    •  Knowledge of the basic principles of media market functioning, understanding of the basics of media companies' work planning and management
    •  Knowledge of the characteristics and tools of journalism investigation production, finding political news and an interesting angle for them, creating feature stories and reports on political and election issues as a result of successful interaction with primary and secondary sources, as well as knowledge of the peculiarities of finding and reporting business-economic topics.

    Can create a news story by fact-checking and presenting sources in a balanced manner, preparing news, producing multimedia media products, filming documentaries, writing in-depth articles, photo storytelling and investigative journalism based on predetermined guidelines.

    Program details:

    In addition to humanitarian-social and STEM blocks and the program's core subjects, the student can accumulate 78  credits with the minor program, program electives or free elective credits. The program considers the different competencies of students in the English language. Namely, the student starts the English language from the stage that corresponds to his knowledge, which is determined based on the assessment obtained on the unified national exams: if the student's score is placed in the interval [0-50]-A2; if the student's score is placed in the gap [51-75]- B1/1 If the student's score is in the interval (76-100)-B1/2, the student who has not passed the English language is given a test to determine the level and then he is registered at the appropriate level, not higher than B1/2.

    Teaching Process Characteristics:

    To obtain a bachelor's degree in journalism, a student needs to complete 240 ECTS, which means 12 ECTS from the humanitarian-social block, 12 ECTS from the STEM block, 138 ECTS from the core subjects of the program, 18 ECTS free credits, 60 ECTS by choosing the subjects of the program and/or by selecting an additional (minor) program. Students can choose an additional minor program from the following majors: Archaeology, English Philology, Georgian Philology, Art Studies, Oriental Studies, American Studies, History, Strategic Communication, and Political Science. This change only applies to students enrolled after 2021. The teaching language of the program is Georgian, with separate English-language components. Accordingly, all components are taught mainly in Georgian, except for those courses where English-language literature is used.
