Program permission: Enrollment of students at the second level of academic higher education (master's programs) is determined by the following cumulative conditions: • Based on the Unified Master's Examinations or in accordance with the Order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia No. 224/N (December 29, 2011); • Upon successfully passing the English language exam (written) or holding an international certificate confirming at least B2 (Upper Intermediate) proficiency level in English; • Upon successfully passing an oral interview; • Based on administrative registration and the order of the University Presidents. During the admission process, a link will be activated, allowing applicants to access samples of English language examination tests. The University ensures the registration of applicants for the program on the portal, where they will have an access to a course of video lectures in economics. These will serve as the foundation for a written exam in the form of a test and an oral interview.
Program goals:

The program’s objective is to cultivate highly qualified specialists in the field of economics - "Law and Economics", encompassing the economic analysis of legal issues. Graduates of the program will be able to assess the economic impact of regulations and present the obtained results to relevant parties in an argumentative manner.

This entails acquiring profound and systematic knowledge and critical understanding of economic policy, theory, decision-making; the capacity to analyze complex problems inherent in the multidisciplinary domain of "Law and Economics" through independent research, as well as developing original ways for resolving these problems; the capability to autonomously deepen knowledge as necessary.

This will enable graduates to pursue positions at universities, research institutes, non-governmental organizations, the public sector, and prominent corporations where effective functioning requires continual research activities (e.g., banks, insurance, and consulting companies).

In these professional activities, graduates of the program contribute to obtaining effective solutions amidst economic changes in both public and private sectors.

Moreover, research skills developed through the program will enable graduates to pursue further studies at the doctoral level.

Knowledge and understanding

  • Graduate of the program demonstrates:

    • deep and systematic knowledge in economic policy, theory and economic decision-making necessary for critical understanding of complex problems in the field of law and economics and for the formation of a new vision of their solution;
    • the necessary knowledge in law for critical understanding of complex problems in the field of law and economics, which includes knowledge about the legal foundations of the state and justice, and human rights;
    • knowledge of content requirements of academic writing and internationally established technical standards within the framework of research.

  • Graduate of the program:

    • in relation to a specific case, taking into account the alternative approaches in the field of law and economy, formulates alternative ways of solving the problem, compares them and justifies one’s own opinion;
    • synthesizes and critically analyzes the information needed to evaluate the economic results of the regulation and the economic policy of the state in general, develops appropriate, original ways for evaluation and, following the principles of academic good faith, independently carries out appropriate research;
    • expands knowledge through synthesis of acquired theoretical and practical knowledge, analysis of primary sources and scientific articles;
    • Using appropriate professional terminology, conveys (written and orally) own reasoned opinion to the professional and academic community and makes a report.

    Program details:

    A student becomes eligible to defend master's thesis upon successful completion of all compulsory courses and the accumulation of a minimum of 90 credits.

    Teaching Process Characteristics:

    The program consists of the core 102-credit compulsory component. The remaining 18 credits of the master's program are chosen by students according to their interests.
