Program permission: Enrollment of students in the first level of academic higher education (undergraduate programs) is carried out in accordance with the results of the Unified National Examinations or the order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia №224/N (December 29,2011).
Program goals:

The goal of the program is to train a qualified, professional growth and postgraduate pharmacist who will have pharmacology, patient-centered rational pharmacotherapy, pharmaceutical assistance and care, using the results of clinical trials in the field of pharmacy, basic knowledge of pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical analysis; Ability to process and disseminate pharmaceutical information based on ethical values, Implement the physician-pharmacist-patient model, professional circles, public relations, management of structural units of pharmaceutical institutions at the appropriate level.

Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and understanding
    • Knows, describes and defines basic principles and characteristics of physiological and pathological processes in the human body, methods of examination and treatment of internal diseases;
    • Describes, explains, distinguishes, compares and reviews patterns of molecular mechanisms of vital processes, inheritance and variability, main aspects of physiological and pathological processes;
    • Describes, reviews, explains, and predicts peculiarities of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in different categories of patients (children, adults, the elderly, pregnant women);
    • Knows the methods of production, extraction, standardization of medicinal plant raw materials, separation of medicinal substances and determination of their chemical structure;
    • Can demonstrate basic knowledge of complex issues of pharmaceutical factory and pharmacy technologies: classification of drug forms, dosage, pharmacy and factory technology of medicines, normative-technical documentation;
    • Describes, distinguishes, compares, classifies and develops regimens of pharmacological groups, mechanisms of their action and interaction, prescribing of medications, indications, contraindications, side effects and dosage, taking into account biotransformation and elimination pathways;
    • Has a knowledge of nomenclature of pharmaceutical institutions, management of the pharmacy as a unit, its structure, functions and tasks, selection and provision of medicines, storage and issuance of medicines and medical supplies;
    • Determines data defining chemical processes in living or non-living systems, functional groups of organic compounds, instrumental methods of chemical analysis;
    • Understands the importance of rational pharmacotherapy in conducting polypragmasia, ineffective, toxic and dangerous medication treatment.

    • Skills
    • Prepares medicines according to the rules of extemporal preparation (according to the prescription);
    • Can describe the methods of serial production of pharmaceutical products;Performs chemical, biological and toxicological analysis/testing of pharmaceutical products;
    • Provides pharmaceutical care and first aid care to patients based on the “Good Pharmaceutical Practice” (GPP) in inpatient and outpatient settings;
    • Provides patient pharmaceutical care and primary medical care in inpatient and outpatient facilities in accordance with international standards of pharmaceutical careMaintains professional records (reports, proposals) to solve problematic issues related to pharmaceutical activities;
    • Presents detailed written and oral reports to medical staff and health professionals on the issues related to pharmaceutical activities;
    • Provides information and education of the patient, family members and the general public.

    • Responsibility and autonomy
    • Assesses and defines his/her own learning process in the field of pharmaceutical activity and ensures the formulation of the main issues of quantitative methods in pharmaceutical practice and research, perfecting language competence, observance of professional, ethical and legal (both local and international) norms of personal data protection in pharmaceutical practice and research and strives to establish them in practice.

    Teaching Process Characteristics:

    The undergraduate program "Pharmacy" includes 240 ECTS credits and consists of 222ECTS credits in basic subjects and 18 ECTS credits in elective subjects (which are selected from 78 ECTS elective credits). English Language IV (B 1/2) (6 ECTS), English Language V (B 2/1) (6 ECTS) and English Language VI (B 2/2) (6 ECTS) are compulsory subjects. Students study subjects semesterly, intensive practical trainings in pharmaceutical enterprises (manufacturing practice) and institutions (pharmaceutical and medical institutions) are studied through the curative system, practical courses are also taught at the University simulation Pharmacy, and laboratory courses are taught at relevant profile laboratories.
