Program permission: Enrollment of students at the first level of academic higher education (undergraduate programs) is carried out based on the results of the unified national exams or the order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia No. 224/N (December 29, 2011), passing administrative registration and the order of the university Rector.
Program goals:

The program aims to prepare archaeologists with theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies in line with modern standards and labor market requirements, who will be able to identify, study, document, analyze and implement professional activities related to the protection of cultural heritage using modern methods of archaeological research and ethical principles, as well as present the results obtained in accordance with academic and professional standards. The program ensures the preparation of graduates for professional activities in relevant fields and creates a basis for continuing their studies at the next level of education.

Knowledge and understanding

  • After completing the program, the graduate:

    • Describes the main stages of the development of archaeology as a scientific discipline, the features of the material culture of archaeological periods (Stone, Bronze, Iron Age, Classical period and Middle Ages) and the main archaeological monuments;
    • Explains the main periods and events of world and Georgian history, the historical and geographical features of Georgia and the Caucasus, as well as the main stages of the development of world and Georgian art in a cultural and historical context;
    • Explains the main principles of the development, periodization and standardization of the Georgian literary language and uses the state language in academic and professional communication;
    • Describes the main methods of archaeological research, landscape archaeology, numismatics, paleography, epigraphy, as well as the basic principles of technology and conservation of archaeological materials.

     


    • Skills

  • After completing the program, the graduate:

    • Analyzes scientific literature in the field of archaeology, independently searches, processes and critically evaluates information necessary for professional activities;
    • Uses appropriate methods of archaeological research in the process of field and chamber research, identifies, classifies and documents archaeological material;
    • Prepares field documentation, archaeological reports and academic papers in compliance with the specifics of the research, academic integrity and state language norms;
    • Uses geoinformation technologies, digital archaeology tools and appropriate methods of exact and natural sciences in the process of archaeological research;
    • Selects methods appropriate to the purpose of the research and the specifics of the archaeological material, analyzes the data obtained and formulates substantiated conclusions;
    • Establishes effective professional communication on archaeology and cultural heritage issues with specialists in the field, representatives of related fields, and a non-specialist audience.

  • After completing the program, the graduate:

    • Adheres to the principles of professional ethics, academic integrity, and cultural heritage protection in educational and professional activities;
    • Plans and directs the development of one's own professional knowledge and skills, taking into account modern scientific achievements and practices.

    In addition to the mandatory subjects that shape competence, the program has three university-compulsory elective subjects - social/humanitarian, Skills and  STEAM blocks, specialty elective subjects and free credits. 

    Teaching Process Characteristics:

    To obtain a bachelor's degree in Archaeology, a student must accumulate 180 ECTS credits, which includes:

    • Competence-forming compulsory subjects – 156 ECTS (including English Language B2/2 and the Special State Language Course – 6 ECTS);
    • 18 ECTS from the university compulsory-elective blocks (6 ECTS from the Social-Humanitarian Block, 6 ECTS from the Skills Block, and 6 ECTS from the STEAM Block);
    • An elective course or free elective credits – 6 ECTS.
