Program permission: | Program permission: Admission criteria/ prerequisite (for the citizens of Georgia): The students are enrolled on the bachelor programs on the basis of the results of the national entrance exams or on the basis of the decree №224/ნ (December 29, 2011) of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, on the basis of the administrative registration and the decree of the University presidents. Admission criteria/ prerequisites (for the foreign country citizens): Foreign entrants who completed secondary education abroad or got the education equivalent to it, or/and completed the last two years of secondary education abroad, or students, who lived abroad during last two or more years and studied abroad in higher educational institutions accredited in compliance with the legislation of the host country can be enrolled in the program without taking national entrance exams on the basis of the decree № 224 / ნ (December 29, 2011) of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia. If the entrants don’t have English language Certificate FCE (First Certificate in English), TOEFL IBT – at least score 72, IELTS – at least score 6, the language competence (B2) is proved on the basis of the University exam in English with the minimal passing rate 60%. |
Program goals: | Considering complexity of the field of philology, the program is designed to: 1. provide the graduate with the knowledge of the conceptual apparatus of linguistics and literary studies, methodological and theoretical foundations, the structure of the English language, the historical dimensions of the English language and the characteristics of British culture, the specifics of the relations between language, thought, society, culture and literature, the concepts and theories of linguistics and literary studies, peculiarities of the development of literary genres; The program is in full compliance with the university mission – “to be engaged in the process of knowledge production and person’s education. Here we imply the cultivation of liberal-humane values among people and their provision with the necessary knowledge and skills requisite to success by means of an honest labor “. The mission is attainable due to the standards of academic honesty, practice-based professional activities, as well as due to the scientific advancements supporting sound, human and democratic development of the society to favor eventually well-being of the nation and humankind. Development of the research and practical skills relevant to the Bachelor’s competence, provided by the synthesis of the theoretical and practical courses, supports achievement of the program goals. Student-oriented teaching is aimed at developing creative thinking, meeting the students’ diverse interests and demands, forming the skills required to adhere to the standards of academic honesty, ethical and professional norms, and shaping the skills needed for accepting national and international values. The competences developed in the premises of the program enable the graduate to be employed in publishing houses, the system of the means of mass communication and in the companies where the demand for English-language communicator is evidenced. Considering the changing demands of the labor market, the subjects focused on the development of the English language teaching competences are integrated in the program. The bachelor program of the English Philology provides the students with the knowledge meeting the modern standards of the humanitarian thought and equips future marketable professionals with the extensive knowledge of the philological and adjacent fields. The program provides the graduate with the opportunity to continue studies on the adjacent specialties. The mentioned opportunity is provided by academic staff and educational components integrated in the program. |
